Cruising Instructor Course

Cost – £950 max 4 students

Duration -5 Days (first 4 days with a RYA Trainer, last day with a Moderator)

The RYA Cruising Instructor Course equips experienced skippers with the skills, techniques, and certification to teach the RYA practical cruising syllabus (up to Day Skipper). It is the entry point into the RYA instructor pathway for sail cruising.

This course focuses not on building your navigation or handling skills (you should already have those in depth) but on how to teach. You’ll learn methods of instruction, feedback techniques, lesson planning, coaching and observation, student engagement, and the RYA standards and structure.

On successful completion, you’ll be certified to teach Competent Crew and Day Skipper practical courses under the RYA scheme.

Prerequisites & Requirements

• Aged 18 or older
• Hold an RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence, with commercial endorsement
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge well in excess of the Yachtmaster Offshore syllabus — i
• Completion of an online pre-course knowledge check / module before the course begins
• Current RYA membership to maintain your instructor status

How to book

If your course is in more than 6 weeks time you will only be required to pay a 25% deposit, with the balance payable 6 weeks prior to the start of your course. Just choose the deposit option from the drop down before you click on the “Book” button. Use the credit card button to pay by credit or debit card. You can also pay over the phone if you prefer.
